Possibilities

             I like the idea of writing about possible answers to a genealogy problem.  As mentioned in the past, I have several brick walls on my paternal line.

Week 4 about a Theory in Progress covers my Reisner brick wall.  I need to locate church records in Wisconsin as well as in Iowa.  Maybe they will open a window or door.  I could also hire somebody to look up information in Germany.

Week 7 about What the Census Suggests is not so much about a brick wall but does remind me of items I need to look at for an immigrant ancestor on my maternal line.   Some of the items listed there are also possibilities for my Reisner family above.

Haueisen brick wall – will have to research in Bavaria.  Same issue as I have with the Reisner family, no church records are available online.

Other surnames include Sparr, Secor, Tuttle, Davis, McKinney, and Morgan.  I’ll need to locate church, census, newspapers, land, and vital records.  I just need to work on one problem at a time and write up what I want to accomplish.

A Brick Wall Revisited

            I have a few brick walls of determining my 3x paternal great-grandparents.

I’ve broken one of those brick walls and talked about it in A Breakthrough Moment from earlier this year.  The one I’m currently working on I talked about in A Theory in Progress.

Have I made any progress . . . not really.  There is a family tree that indicates that the name I’m looking for is Christoff Wilhelm Georg Reisner, wife is Maria Christiana.  Hmmm . . . they have a document that may be of assistance – a burial record for Maria Christiana.  Now, to translate it from German.

Nope . . . that doesn’t work.  It indicates she was born in 1814 and died in 1874 at age 60.  No way could she be the mother of my immigrant.  Well . . . let’s continue using DNA to break that wall.  And pray that the church records in Bavaria will be digitized.

Brick Walls in Family Research

 

I have lots of brick walls.  One I have already talked about - that is the Reisner family back in Week 5 under Challenges.

I have broken through the wall on my Ahrendt family.  However, I still have a lot more work to be done by locating church records in Mecklenburg.

I also need to work on the Haueisen family that was from Bavaria.  Here again, it will need to be church records.  Like the Reisner family, this is difficult to do as they have not been digitized.

Other paternal families that will require further research as time allows include the ancestors of Mary Jane Secor(e) and Bertha Davis.

My maternal side goes back a long way.  What I need to do first is validate the information I have before working on any brick walls.

Then I need to tackle my husband’s families.
